Directed by Nathaniel G. Lew, Counterpoint is dedicated to performing choral chamber music and engaging with student musicians, to enhance the cultural life of communities in Vermont and beyond. Since its founding in 2000 by Director Emeritus Robert De Cormier, the professional vocal ensemble has performed concerts throughout Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, and nationally, and garnered praise for its “sophisticated musical expressiveness,” and “beautiful blend and lyricism.” The group has recorded ten CDs, including Christmas carols and music from the Jewish, Latin-American, and African-American traditions. For this concert, Counterpoint joins with the Montpelier-based 802 String Quartet for a program of works for choir and string ensemble including Brahms’ popular Liebeslieder Waltzes; Beethoven’s Elegiac Song; and works by Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, Giacomo Puccini, and Vermont’s own Erik Nielsen.
