News & Events
Stowe closed things out on a high note with blue skies, sunshine and corn snow on 19 miles of trails & glades. Perfect! To summarize the season: Stowe received 352 inches of snow, the third consecutive year of at least 350 inches. There were a lot of days when conditions were still and clear: still snowing and clear up to our knees. The snowfall total included over 9 feet in January alone and 5 feet in about a week in late February. It was memorable! When it was not snowing, Stowe seemed to have more than the usual number of bluebird sky & sunshine days, especially in March and April. On the occasions when Mother Nature was not cooperative, our groomers and snowmakers made things right again very quickly. All in all, a spectacular season. Although snow conditions are always the main story, there were lots of other highlights as well: the first winter for the Stowe Mountain Lodge hotel, Spruce Camp base lodge and the Winter Cottage, plus the new race venue on the Main Street trail which was very well-received by the athletes and coaches. Stowe has the best terrain this side of the Rockies, abundant snowfall, a boatload of snowmaking, extensive grooming and the longest ski day in the East every day of the season. Not to mention the town of Stowe itself, with its great variety of shops, lodges and restaurants. We really are very lucky to be able to live and play in this special place. Hard to imagine why anyone would want to ski or ride anywhere else. We played in the snow together today and made some turns for friends who could not join us today and for special people we lost this past year like Stu Campbell & Jim McLeod; they will always be part of the fabric of our mountain. Now it is time to enjoy all that Stowe has to offer in summer: the gondola ride, alpine slide & Toll Road here at the mountain, plus golf, tennis, hiking, biking, car shows, concerts and other activities around Stowe. Before you know it, November will be here and we will be back on the mountain.
