STOWE MOUNTAIN GOLF CLUB OPENS

Stowe Mountain Golf Club, a course that winds dramatically along the lower reaches of Mount Mansfield and Spruce Peak, opened for the 2009 golf season on May 23. The new golf club is a true wilderness course that features sparkling Peregrine Lake and is encircled by 2,000 protected acres of pristine forest land. Stowe Mountain Golf Club is also the first in Vermont to achieve Audubon International's Signature Sanctuary certification due to its' environmental initiatives.

Stowe Mountain Golf Club (SMGC) has recently been named on two 'Best New Courses' lists in the golf industry's top publications. SMGC is one of Golf Magazine's 'Top 10 New Courses You Can Play.' Golf writer Joe Passov wrote, "The course basks in the postcard views of Vermont's highest point, but the off-course vistas are exceeded only by the on-course challenges." SMGC has also earned ranking in Golfweek's 'Top 50 Best New Courses.'

SMGC spans nearly 6,500 yards with a dramatic elevation gain, allowing for sweeping views of Peregrine Lake and the Little River Valley below. Additional course amenities include a 6,500 square-foot practice green and chipping area, built to USGA specifications, as well as an architecturally stunning Golf Cottage, hosting a pro shop, teaching studio, locker rooms, dining area, lounge and terrace. The course is available to Stowe Mountain Club members and overnight guests of Stowe Mountain Lodge, a luxurious new hotel and spa at Stowe Mountain Resort. The addition of this exclusive property, golf club and everything that Spruce Peak at Stowe now offers has reinforced Stowe Mountain Resort's position as the East's premier four-season mountain resort.

"Once every few decades, a spectacular sight for golf appears. Such is the case at the foot of Mt. Mansfield in Stowe, Vermont. This land provides a feeling of grandeur in the long views and yet certain coziness within the engulfing cradle of Mansfield and Spruce Peak. There may be no finer collection of great short par fours anywhere in America," commented renowned course designer Bob Cupp.
