The Green Mountain Inn and Stowe, at Night, Lantern Tours have collaborated to bring the Great Ghost & Pumpkin Festival to Stowe, October 26 – 31, 2018. This six-day festival will offer ghostly lantern tours around Stowe’s historic village, scary tales by the fire, a caramel apple demonstration, costume party with a DJ, a tasting by The Alchemist and more. All events take place at the Green Mountain Inn unless otherwise specified. For the lantern tours, please reserve your space in advance by calling (802) 244-1173.

Schedule

Friday, October 26, 2018:

  • 8 – 9 p.m.: Lantern tour around Stowe’s historic village. Each attendee will get their own old-fashioned lantern to carry throughout the tour. Tours will begin at the Visitor Information Center (51 Main Street).
  • 9 – 9:30 p.m.: After the tour, gather around the Mansfield Fire Pit and enjoy S’more’s and the Great Pumpkin arrival.

Saturday, October 27, 2018:

  • 12 p.m.: Gather in the Village Room at the Green Mountain Inn for a pumpkin carving for all ages! There will be tiny pumpkins to paint, prizes and a contest for the best pumpkin at dark. LED lights will be provided.
  • 5- 7 p.m.: Costume DJ party in the Main Street Dining Room. Costumes are encouraged! Masks will be available, as well as apple bobbing.

Monday, October 29, 2018:

  • 3 p.m.:  Learn how to make your own caramel apples!
  • 8 p.m.: Gather for a ghost story by the fire told by Shawn from Stowe Lantern Tours. Hot apple cider and Halloween cookies will be provided. There may even be a special appearance by the Inn’s tap dancing ghost, Boots. Boots was born in 1840 at the Inn, where he continued to work into his adult life. After a brief period outside of Stowe, Boots returned and helped saved a little girl who was stranded on the Inn’s roof during a snowstorm. He saved the girl, but fell to his untimely death right above the room where he was born. Legend has it that you Boots’ rooftop dancing steps can still be heard today during a snowstorm.

Tuesday, October 30, 2018:

  • 5 – 7 p.m.: Enjoy a tasting with Alchemist Brewery at the Inn before the nightly lantern tour.
  • 8 p.m – 9 p.m.: Lantern tour around Stowe’s historic village. Each attendee will get their own old-fashioned lantern to carry throughout the tour. Tours will begin at the Visitor Information Center (51 Main Street).

Wednesday, October 31, 2018:

  • 1 p.m.: Childrens’ Ghost Walk on Stowe’s Main Street
  • 4:30 – 6 p.m.: Join us for a Halloween Party at Stowe Elementary Gym hosted by the Stowe Parks & Recreation! The party will feature a DJ, costume contest, games and a photo booth. Trick-or-Treating will take place right after.
  • 8 – 9 p.m.: Celebrate Halloween with a lantern tour around Stowe’s historic village. Each attendee will get their own old-fashioned lantern to carry throughout the tour. Tours will begin at the Visitor Information Center (51 Main Street).
